In the initial phase, 11,700 2BHK housing units were allocated to recipients within the city on Saturday. Beneficiaries were selected from all GHMC constituencies in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Since the state government introduced the double-bedroom housing scheme, a total of 0.7 million applications have been received for 2 BHK houses within GHMC limits. During the online lottery draws, 500 beneficiaries were chosen from each assembly constituency.
MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao was scheduled to inaugurate the housing scheme at Quthbullapur and hand over keys to 1,700 beneficiaries but was unable to attend due to being abroad. In his absence, Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, along with Quthbullapur and Kukatpally MLAs, presided over the inauguration.
Talasani assured transparency in the process through the lottery draw and advised those who didn't secure allotments in the first phase not to worry, assuring that all eligible individuals would receive houses.
In Kollur, Health Minister Harish Rao distributed 2BHK housing certificates to 3,500 beneficiaries in the Patancheru constituency. In Secunderabad Cantonment, the late MLA G Sayanna's daughter, Lasya Nandita, attended the launch at Bahadurpally.
The event in the city was attended by GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durishetty, and GHMC Commissioner D Ronald Rose. Various ministers who presented keys to beneficiaries highlighted the numerous welfare schemes implemented by the Telangana government. Each housing unit is estimated to cost between Rs5 and Rs 6 million.
