Ahmedabad extends deadline for unused property tax

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's revenue committee has decided to relax the rules for applying for tax benefits on unused properties. Previously, property owners had a narrow window of April 1-7 to apply for this benefit. However, the period for applying has now been extended until May 31. To qualify for this tax benefit, residential property owners must have electricity usage of less than 30 units over two months, while commercial property owners must have less than 50 units.

Jainik Vakil, the committee chairman, noted that the previous application period caused a large number of applications to be classified as 'pending' because it fell at the start of the financial year. By extending the deadline, the municipality aims to reduce the backlog of pending applications by approximately 25,000 each year. Nevertheless, property owners without electricity connections are still required to apply during the April 1-7 period.
