Chhattisgarh resumes Nava Raipur projects

The Chhattisgarh government has resumed work on infrastructure projects in the state capital Nava (New) Raipur that were halted during the Covid-induced pandemic.

When the pandemic reached its peak in May 2021, the state government halted all major infrastructure projects, including the construction of a new governor's house, Assembly building, chief minister's house, ministers' and senior officers' residences, and a new circuit house in the 'Nava Raipur' area (New Raipur).

Vikas Upadhyay, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Department (PWD), stated that the move would save the state exchequer Rs 200 billion. The country was fighting Covid, and major expenditures that were not immediately required had to be cut.

Now that the economy is on the mend, Chhattisgarh is reviving stalled projects. The first in the series is the construction of new Legislative Assembly premises, which will cost approximately Rs 2.45 billion and cover an area of 550,000 sq ft. In addition, an MLA guest house is part of the project, which will cost an additional Rs 1.18 billion to complete.
