Faridabad's Amrita Hospital is the largest ever hospital in the nation

After "learning lessons" from the pandemic that severely stalled the project, several Covid-safety design elements have been implemented in the recently inaugurated Amrita Hospital here, including the creation of specialised isolation rooms and the assurance of nearly contactless conveying of blood and other samples to a centralised laboratory.

Eight years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic's onset in India, in 2012, a 130-acre complex with a state-of-the-art hospital was envisioned. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 2,600-bed hospital facility, which was constructed under the sponsorship of Mata Amritanandmayi Math, in 2016. Construction on it began in 2016.

Midway through 2016, construction on a parcel of land had already begun. At the same time, talks with more farmers and a team of architects about designing the complex sustainably had also begun.
