MHADA to develop long-delayed project in Mumbai鈥檚 Goregaon

The Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) will get around 4 lakh sq ft built-up area for construction of a project which has been stuck for almost a decade.
The development of the remaining land will be a cluster development, the Housing Minister, Jitendra Awhad, told the media.
The state cabinet decided that MHADA will be the developer of Siddharth Nagar, Patra Chawl in Goregaon West, where the work is closed for a decade.
The state cabinet decided to allow MHADA to sell flats at market prices. It will enable MHADA to recover the cost it will incur in the redevelopment for the tenants. It will have to raise funds for the redevelopment by making provision in its budget.
The former chief secretary, Johny Joseph, recommended MHADA to carry out its redevelopment. The report urged all the 672 tenants to be rehabilitated and rent to be paid to them. The 306 lottery winners will be allotted homes after completion of the construction work.
The tenants will be paid the rents for which they have not been paid. About 60% of the construction work is completed, and the flats will be available to the tenants in the next two years, Awhad said.
According to the committee's recommendations, MHADA will have to appoint a committee of its three representatives and two experts. The committee will calculate the quantity of Floor Space Index (FSI) used by the developers, dues owed to MHADA, construction cost, project revenue, and it will ensure that while recovering the debt from the developers, the housing authority faces no loss.
