People in Kashmir鈥檚 Rajouri get pucca houses under PMAY scheme

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Rural Development is building pucca houses for people living in poverty in the Draman Panchayat of Rajouri district.

The MNREGA scheme has also provided jobs to residents of Draman Panchayat's far-flung hilly area.

During the winter season, beneficiaries of the PMAY scheme who had previously lived in Kacha houses faced numerous challenges.

Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of the area, told the media that they will be given work in their village, eliminating the need for them to travel to Delhi, Punjab, or other states in search of work.

During the winter, their village receives five feet of snow, causing damage to around 200 kaccha houses. The Modi government has devised an excellent scheme that will benefit them greatly.

Abdul Rehman, Sarpanch told the media that 200 pucca houses are being built here under the PMAY.

Rajouri is 7 km away from this remote, hilly area. Because this is a snow-prone area, people here have a lot of problems during the winter. Houses are damaged by snow during the winter, and people are without a place to stay. They owe the government a debt of gratitude. Under the PMAY, the government will provide Rs 1.5 lakh.

On 25 June 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 鈥 Urban (PMAY-U), a flagship mission of the Government of India, was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). By 2022, when the country celebrates 75 years of independence, the Mission aims to address the urban housing shortage among the EWS/LIG and MIG categories, including slum dwellers, by ensuring that all eligible urban households have access to a pucca house.
