Punjab housing department to construct 32,000 EWS homes from Oct

In a meeting, the new Cabinet Minister of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, discussed the pro-poor initiative, including 32,000 housing construction and about 300 units of free electricity for the economically weaker section (EWS).
On Monday, the meeting concluded with the pro-poor initiatives be launching from 2nd October to mark the birth anniversary of the father of the nation.
The focus will be laid on the core sectors of healthcare and education and to provide affordable healthcare and education to everyone.
The minister instructed the Housing and Urban Development Department to initiate 32,000 housing construction for EWS on priority.
These housing will be available for eligible beneficiaries at affordable instalments.
The minister said that the free mining of the sand by landowners would be permitted to abolish the contract. As per the system, landowners can mine sand from their land to ensure its availability at affordable prices to the consumer.
It is also instructed to increase the free electricity unit from 200 units to 300 units under the consumers from the weaker sections of the society. Additionally, the Chief Secretary of Power will bring the proposal to the next Cabinet to provide relief to the poor.
It also suspended the pending electricity bills of tubewells under the Rural Water Supply schemes and provided free water supply in the villages.
The Ministry evaluated how to provide relief to the consumers of domestic water and sewerage tariff in urban areas.
The Rural Development and Panchayats Department will launch a campaign to identify and decide plot allotments in two months to the eligible beneficiaries.
The Punjab Scheduled Caste Lands Development and Finance Corporation will form a policy for land allotment to the beneficiaries at affordable prices.
The ministry has decided the implementation of a policy under the Right to Education Act and providing help to eligible educational centres.
