UP-RERA sets guidelines for project advertisements

After an order was issued by the Uttar Pradesh government concerning the advertising of real estate projects, the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP-RERA) directed all stakeholders to adhere to the specified standard guidelines for any form of promotion and advertising.

It was mandated that advertisements for projects on platforms such as newspapers, magazines, brochures, leaflets, electronic, outdoor, social, and digital media must include the RERA registration numbers and UP-RERA portal. Sanjay Bhoosreddy, the chairman of UP-RERA, emphasised that these details should be clearly stated in bold and large fonts at a prominent location in the advertisements. Failure to comply with this requirement would result in actions against promoters and agents. Media houses found in violation would have their cases forwarded to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, for appropriate action.

While scrutinizing advertisements and promotions of real estate projects across online and offline mediums, it was observed that promoters, real estate agents, public relations agencies, and institutions releasing project ads were not adhering to the provisions of the RERA Act. In several instances, UP-RERA registration numbers and the RERA portal were mentioned in disclaimers with small fonts that could be easily overlooked. Additionally, in some advertisements, both details were prominently placed almost outside the main advertisement portion.
