Madurai satellite township gets Rs 120 cr

To create an integrated satellite township on the Ma­durai-Tirunelveli four-lane road at Thoppur and Ucchampatti village, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has announced a sanction of Rs 120 crore. The amount is to facilitate the execution of the first phase works of the satellite township. The project, to come up on 586.86 acres, will ad­dress the increasing ne­eds of the growing population, particularly their housing demands, bes­ides involving the development of urban areas. Tamil Nadu government has been taking several steps to fulfill the housing requirements of the people, especially those from the middle-class and poor sections. The township will have 19,500 plots of which 14,300 would be allotted to low-income groups, 2,500 for middle-income groups, 750 for high-income groups and 1,950 for economically backward sections.
