Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to Open Soon, Says Minister

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra, inspected the full 210-kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway on Thursday, accompanied by officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction and affirmed that the expressway would significantly decongest the National Capital Territory and ease pressure on the Delhi鈥揗eerut Expressway and other arterial routes. He directed officials to address remaining bottlenecks swiftly and ensure that the project is completed within the scheduled timeframe.

According to NHAI officials, the final stages of construction are expected to conclude within the next two to three months.

The expressway originates near Akshardham Temple in Delhi and traverses Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, before reaching Dehradun in Uttarakhand. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 120 billion, the road is designed for speeds up to 100 km/h and will slash the current travel time from 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours.

The route also includes a spur to Haridwar and integrates with the Char Dham Highway, enhancing access to key pilgrimage and hill destinations in both Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

As part of its commitment to environmentally sensitive development, the Modi Government has constructed Asia鈥檚 largest 12-km elevated wildlife corridor through Rajaji National Park, ensuring minimal ecological disruption.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is set to become a key infrastructure asset for the region, offering faster, safer, and more sustainable travel.
