Centre to invest Rs 255 cr for Kushinagar International Airport

Minister of Civil Aviation (MoCA) Jyotiraditya Scindia has set a budget of Rs 255 crore for Kushinagar International Airport.

Flights are anticipated to begin in October from Kushinagar International Airport, Scindia told the media.

Despite the minister's announcement of the budget, the airport director stated that he does not have details on the spending. However, he cited that the funds will undoubtedly be used to complete the remaining work.

The work on the runway, terminal building, ATC, fire, electricity substation, and the optical fibre is already finished. Officers, technical, and administrative personnel have all been appointed.

The airport director informed that Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range (DVOR) must be installed and that a request for ILS installation has been sent.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has asked the state government for 34 acres of land for ILS. Purna Bohra, a joint magistrate, said that the process of acquiring land has begun in response to the demand.

The airport is spread out over 600 acres.

In February, Kushinagar airport received all necessary clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to be recognised as an international airport.

The airport finally received international status in June 2020.
