To enhance connectivity across the state, the Assam government has constructed over 31,800 km of roads and completed more than 1,400 bridges under various initiatives. On social media platform X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma referred to these developments as part of the Assam Growth Story, emphasising the extensive road and transport infrastructure projects undertaken. He stated that improving connectivity in every corner of the state has been a key priority, noting the construction of over 31,800 km of roads and 1,400 bridges, particularly focusing on Aspirational Districts. Under various schemes, the government has built 9,066 roads spanning a total length of 31,869 km and constructed 1,401 bridges across the state. Geo-tagging has been completed for 4,125 habitations with populations exceeding 250. The State Rural Roads Development Agency has approved 3,322 of these habitations, which were completed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase IV. Additionally, through the PM-Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan initiative, 834 habitations in 652 villages and 543 habitations in Aspirational Districts have been identified for development. The Chief Minister performed the *Bhumi Pujan* ceremony for the Loh Purush Bishnuram Medhi Setu, a 12.2-km-long bridge over the Brahmaputra that will connect Palasbari and Sualkuchi. This bridge, the eighth over the Brahmaputra, is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region. The Chief Minister also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the bridge last year. He highlighted that while there were only three bridges over the Brahmaputra before 2014, three more have become operational since then, with another nearing completion and several others under construction. The new bridge will connect Sualkuchi, known as Assam鈥檚 Vastra Nagri and the center of the world-renowned Assam silk industry, with Palasbari, an emerging growth hub and part of the State Capital Region. This connection is expected to transform the periphery of Guwahati. The project, estimated at a cost of Rs 31.97 billion, is anticipated to be completed by June 2028.
