Delay in land acquisition of Shivane-Kharadi road project

The enormous Shivane-Kharadi road project, started by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) more than ten years ago, is still unfinished as a result of complications with land acquisition. Officials claim that the cost of purchasing the land is now greater than the cost of building the road itself. The corporation claims to have finished more than 60% of the work on the Kharadi-Shivane riverbank route as of right now, but it is incomplete and will not help with the area's traffic problems.

The 2km segment between Kalyaninagar and Mundhwa Bridge, which is part of the 17.10km total length of the route, requires land acquisition by PMC.

Officials from the road department estimate that PMC needs 9519.60 square metres of land to develop the 2 km section. More than $3 billion will be required by the civic organisation to buy the site.

The road will be built by PMC in two stages, the first of which is the 5.95-kilometer stretch from Shivane to the Mhatre Bridge and the second of which is the 11.8-kilometer section from Sangamwadi to Kharadi.
