West Bengal to build road to boost religious tourism

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the state government is building a road connecting the North Bengal region through the popular religious tourism destination Joyrambati-Kamarpukur in Hooghly district.

The road will run through Daspur, Mechogram, and then through Natungram (a dolls village in Burdwan) and parts of Birbhum district to connect with the North Bengal region. The project has a budget of Rs 30 billion, Banerjee reportedly stated in response to a question in the state Assembly about tourism development.

In addition, the Chief Minister stated that Sabujdwip has been developed as an international standard tourist destination, a light hub at Chandannagore, a building for the stationing of the famous rath at Mahesh in Serampore, and Furfura Sharif Dargah have all been developed.
