While work on the Pune-Nashik high-speed rail project is going on at full speed elsewhere in the district, the work in Khed taluka has been halted by the Defence Department. The project was passing through Army premises in the taluka, and has suddenly been objected to. The district administration has therefore changed the route from Khed taluka, and the revised route plan has been submitted to the railway administration. Being built by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, a joint venture of the State government and the Ministry of Railways, this railway line is proposed through Pune, Nagar and Nashik districts. However, the work in Khed taluka has been stopped due to objection from the Defense Department. Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh said, 鈥淭he enumeration of the respective villages and the assessment of the land to be acquired was completed, but the Defence Department has objected to the alignment of the project at Khed as there is an explosives disposal centre of the army in the taluka. 鈥淒uring the preparation of the detailed project report by the Railways, no objection was raised by the Defence Department, and now, due to the sudden objection, the work there has been stopped. In this background, the route between 12 villages in Khed Taluka of the project has been newly aligned.
