Council approves draft Thiruvananthapuram master plan 2040

The draft master plan 2040 was unanimously approved by the Thiruvananthapuram civic body council. The corporation will now submit it to the state government, and once approved, the plan will be published. The public has 60 days after being notified of the draft master plan to file an objection.

The agenda for the council meeting recently declared the intention to prepare and publish a new master plan for the city. The corporation issued the notification in 2017.

However, two years have passed since the resolution was passed, and it was reintroduced to overcome any potential legal challenges to the new master plan for the city. Ideally, the civic body shall prepare a draft master plan for the local planning area and forward the plan to the government in consultation with the department of town and country planning within two years of the decision date. In 2020, the town and country planning department submitted a draught master plan 2040 to the Centre and began a consultation process with ward councillors.
