India has taken a major step toward sustainable construction with the launch of its first ultra-low emission TMT bars by ARS Steel. These 550D grade bars, made using 98 per cent recycled steel, renewable energy, and no fossil fuels, have been supplied to Epic Group鈥檚 net-zero manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

With an emission intensity of just 0.59 tonne of tCO鈧� per tonne of finished steel (tfs), ARS Steel's product significantly outperforms the national average of 2.5 tCO鈧�/tcs, marking a fourfold improvement in emissions reduction. This makes it one of the greenest steel products currently available in India.

The initiative is part of a collaboration between ARS Steel, Epic Group, and sustainability-tech firm sentra.world. The Bhubaneswar facility, worth Rs 3.77 billion, aims for net-zero energy and water usage, with the green steel contributing to a 20 per cent reduction in embodied emissions.

Sentra.world鈥檚 AI and blockchain-based platform will provide real-time emissions tracking and traceability, promoting transparency and accountability in India's green construction movement.
