The Maharashtra Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM Technology (India) to drive administrative reforms through advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI). The collaboration will establish three AI Skills and Excellence Centres across the state鈥擬umbai for Geographic Analysis, Pune for Forensic Science Infrastructure, and Nagpur for Advanced AI Research and MARVEL implementation.
The partnership aims to make governance faster, more transparent, and citizen-centric by leveraging AI, hybrid cloud, data analytics, cybersecurity, and automation. These centres will enable personalised public service delivery using technologies such as virtual assistants and agentic AI, while ensuring data ownership and technological control remain with the state government.
Government operations will be made more predictive and efficient through the adoption of generative AI, identity management, and secure access systems. The initiative also focuses on capacity building, with training for government employees, students, and MSMEs in AI, cloud, and cybersecurity via IBM鈥檚 training platforms.
The move is expected to boost productivity, support industry automation, and enhance Maharashtra鈥檚 competitive edge in tech-driven governance and service delivery.
