EIU releases annual ranking of world's most liveable cities for 2022

The annual ranking of the world's most liveable cities has just been released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), and 2022's Global Liveability Index indicates some marked differences from last year.
The EIU, which is a sister organisation to The Economist, ranked 173 cities around the globe on a variety of factors, including political stability, infrastructure, health care, crime rates, and access to green space.
The Red Cross and European Union's presence supported Geneva's place highly on the list.
Overall, Europe conquered the list, with six spots in the top 11. Copenhagen ranked second place on the Global Liveability Index.
Switzerland was the only country in Europe to have two entries in the top 10, with Geneva in sixth rank and Zurich landing in the third position.
However, Canada was the overall country winner. The Great White North had three of its cities represented -- Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto.
Cities that were towards the top of our rankings before the Covid-19 pandemic has rebounded on the back of their stability, good infrastructure, and services, as well as pleasant leisure activities.
Last year's winner, New Zealand's Auckland, fell out of the top 10 ranks in 2022 to land at an unexpected 34th place.
Neighbouring Australia had the most evident drop in the rankings this year. Despite having topped the list in the past, Melbourne slipped to 10th place in 2022.
Australia overpowered the EIU index, with Adelaide, Brisbane, and Perth all joining Melbourne in the top 10 in 2021. This year, these cities ranked 27th, 30th, and 32nd respectively.
Osaka was the only Asian city to rank in the top 10 positions this year.
Wellington, New Zealand's capital, was in the fourth position in 2021 but also fell out of the top 10 this year.
Though Europe had a very good ranking in 2022, two evident entries are missing -- London and Paris.
The ongoing global conflict was the number-one factor deciding which countries ranked at the list bottom. Damascus, Lagos, and Tripoli were ranked the three least liveable cities globally.
