Google plans to open new office in Pune in 2022

Google is planning to open a new office in Pune in the second half of 2022. Teams in cloud product engineering, technical support, and global delivery centre organisations will be hired.

The Mountain View-based technology giant said in a statement that recruiting will begin alongside the organisation's rapidly growing teams in Gurgaon, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

As it looks to compete with the likes of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft, Google has been aggressively building its Cloud division in the country with key leadership hires.

The new hires will be in charge of developing advanced enterprise cloud technologies in collaboration with Google Cloud's global engineering teams, providing real-time technical advice, and delivering product and implementation expertise that customers look to Google Cloud for as a trusted partner in their digital transformation journey.

In other development, Google is reportedly facing legal action over its deceptive Pixel 4 radio advertisements.

According to GizmoChina, the company is being sued in Texas for radio advertisements that aired from late October to early December 2019.

According to AndroidCentral, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed the lawsuit, alleging that Google advertised its Pixel 4 smartphones in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston markets inaccurately and deceptively.

There is a lot of speculation about where the office will be, but industry insiders said that it will be in Pune's Balewadi neighbourhood. Negotiations are in the final stages, according to a top builder with commercial property in the area. The office is expected to open in the second half of 2022, and hiring is currently underway.

HSBC, Dutch Bank, MasterCard, and Credit Suisse have captive centres in Pune, and Indian multinational companies such as Infosys have long been present in the district.
