The Ministry of Housing, V Somanna, has directed the authorities to issue a work order before 10 February to construct 10,060 housing units for beneficiaries under the Basava Housing Scheme and the Dr BR Ambedkar Nivas Yojana. While speaking during the various housing programmes at the Jila panchayat auditorium, he directed the authorities to finalise the list of beneficiaries and issue a work order to construct houses. Besides the work order, the first instalment amount for the houses must be given to the beneficiaries. For preventing any construction delays, the construction amount will be cleared into three instalments rather than four. He said that he had sanctioned 20 more houses for each gram panchayat. The authorities should organise a district-level program to distribute hakku patra to the beneficiaries who have their housings constructed by the Karnataka Slum Development Board. The authorities must ensure to collect property tax from owners. He added that the Ministry sanctioned 4 lakh houses in rural areas and 1 lakh in urban areas. The centre has assured sanction of 18 lakh houses for the state. Further, the housing department rules are now simplified to benefit home buyers. Previously, MLA Yathindra Siddaramaiah said that a bill had not been cleared for 8,053 houses under-construction in his Varuna constituency. The managing director, Basavaraj, said that 5.70 lakh houses had been sanctioned under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme, and the bill has been cancelled for nearly 1.55 lakh beneficiaries.
