Kerala Municipal Corporation revealed the budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2022-23, focusing on housing for everybody, improving civic facilities and basic infrastructure, enhancing disaster management projects, women-friendly projects, and extending the hunger-free project. The budget also aims to turn Thiruvananthapuram into a model city. P K Raju, Deputy Mayor, presented the budget with an overall revenue income of Rs 1,628 crore and an outlay of Rs 1,256 crore. The budget promised complete development of the city, including momentum in infrastructure, education, health and upliftment of the downtrodden. Sneha Sadanam project, envisaging the construction of 1,500 houses under LIFE Mission, received the highest fund allotment of Rs 120 crore. The budget also allocated Rs 50 crore to supply uninterrupted drinking water to every house and Rs 10.28 crore for the Aardram project, which focuses on developing primary and family health centres in the city. S Arya Rajendran, the Mayor, told the media that every project announced in FY 22-23 and the previous year would be executed in the next five years by the incumbent governing council. The Mayor said that out of the 181 announced projects, providing homes for all city residents would be a priority. He said that the pandemic slowed down many projects, but they are trying to complete them quickly. Another significant announcement was the development of Vilappilshala into a modern township with all facilities, including an allocation of Rs 5 crore for this project. The township would include farmlands, parks, a community hall, and auditoriums. The city would be developed based on the town hall in other cities and would come upon the plot in the Jagathy junction corporation. A multi-storey building would be built after demolishing the existing Indian Coffee House building at the main corporate office's premises and would cost Rs 1 crore. The budget also reserved Rs 1.5 crore for three new zonal office buildings at Sreekaryam, Thiruvallam, and Ulloor. The FY22-23 budget also revealed the second crematorium opening at Kazhakoottam, Santhitheeram. It would be designed similar to Santhikavadam and the abattoir at Kunnukuzhy. The Deputy Mayor also announced a startup facilitation centre to give youths a platform to brainstorm their special ideas.
