Nashik Municipal Corp to conduct GIS mapping of the entire city

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has determined to carry out geographic information system (GIS) mapping of the entire city as per the development plan of the city, which was sanctioned in 2017, to encourage civic administration in planning the different development works.

The digital mapping of all the properties, city roads, green and yellow areas of the city along with underground drainage lines, piped gas lines and various ducts have been proposed by the civic body. NMC has additionally made a provision of Rs 3 crore in the budget for the coming financial year.

While submitting the budget, NMC commissioner Kailas Jadhav told the media that an aerial survey of the city is to be carried out via drones for digital mapping of the city. Information regarding existing utilities such as underground drainage lines, water, electricity, gardens, compressed Natural Gas (CNG) gas lines, reservations, rivers, nullahs, bus and railway terminals, sanctioned buildings and properties are to be collected and to be added in the GIS mapping.

This data through the GIS mapping will assist NMC while making new plans for the city in the future. This information will be useful while taking up any new civic project in the city so that the losses will be minimal. Moreover, NMC has additionally made electric vehicle (EV) charging stations compulsory for the buildings while sanctioning the building plans. There will be one EV charging station after every 25 apartments of the building.
