Registration offices clear 90% of pending applications in 4 days

In the span of four days, the registration department's 27 city offices successfully processed over 90% of the 13,500 pending leave-and-licence applications. This swift resolution brought significant relief to citizens who had been grappling with prolonged delays in online enrolments.

This accelerated procedure was a direct result of a circular issued by the joint district registrar, instructing registration officials to reduce the backlog of documents to a maximum of 50 per office.

"After reviewing the document backlog at the registration offices, we observed that out of the 27 offices, 24 had fewer than 50 pending documents, and eight offices had single-digit backlogs. The remaining three offices with higher pendency have been instructed to expedite their processing," stated joint district registrar Santosh Hingane.

Leave-and-licence documents are typically registered online and are supposed to be cleared within 24 hours of submission, according to the established procedure. However, citizens attempting to register their documents online had been experiencing waiting periods of up to two weeks or more in recent months. This delay had initially arisen due to technical issues with the software.

Sachin Shingavi, the president of the association of service providers, highlighted that the delays had stretched to nearly 20-25 days, particularly in cities like Pune and Mumbai. Tenant Raghuvir Yadav, who had submitted his document registration request online the previous week, expressed optimism about a swift resolution now that the process was gaining momentum. "With the process now speeding up," Yadav remarked, "I am hopeful that mine will also be cleared soon."
