Tamil Nadu CM: Govt will rebuild 28,643 dilapidated flats

Chief Minister M K Stalin informed the Assembly on Friday that the state government will repair 28,643 decrepit flats of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board in the next three years, with 6,746 apartments being reconstructed in the first phase. He made the statement in accordance with Rule 110 and stated that the first phase of work will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 11.46 billion.

According to the chief minister, of the 194 million apartments that the Board presently manages throughout Tamil Nadu, 28,643 have been determined to be in poor condition. "In the first phase, during 2024-2025 financial year, East Cemetery Road, Kodungaiyur, and VOC areas in Chennai, besides the project areas in Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs 11.46 billion.?

Stalin said that following the DMK's assumption of power, the government prioritised the Board's work and accelerated the construction of 1.70 lakh individual dwellings and 29,439 apartments in three years.

In addition, he stated that 79,094 apartments and 89,429 single-family homes were in various states of completion and that the government had invested a total of Rs 66.85 billion in these projects. The government was also focusing on renovating existing apartments rather than just developing new ones.
