Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has secured聽 Rs 1.43 billion contract from Southern Railway to upgrade the electric traction system in Tamil Nadu. The project will boost loading capacity to 3,000 metric tonnes by converting the Salem鈥揚odanur and Irugur鈥揅oimbatore鈥揚odanur sections from a 1x25 kV to a more efficient 2x25 kV system. Set for completion in 24 months, the upgrade promises enhanced freight handling and operational efficiency. RVNL shares rose 1.8 per cent post-announcement, though the stock remains down 20 per cent in 2025, with the government retaining a 72.84 per cent stake.
