Tamil Nadu govt to build 960 houses for Singanallur housing owners

Housing Minister S Muthusamy told the media that the state government would construct 960 houses for the Singanallur housing unit flats' owner via a joint venture with a builder.
After a meeting on Sunday with the Singanallur housing board apartment owners in the city, Muthusamy told the media that the new flats would be stronger, spacious and better than the existing ones. The current housing unit lacks certain facilities. They have discussed rendering a lot more facilities in the new housing unit, he said.
Muthusamy told the media that the 960 homes were constructed over 35 years ago. Over the years the building got damaged, and the structure was weakened so much that the citizens could no longer live there. The owners of the housing units have been urging the government to redevelop the housing unit.
Remembering that former DMK minister Pongalur N Palaniswamy, as well as party鈥檚 former SInganallur MLA N Karthik, had raised the matter several times, Muthusamy said that when chief minister M K Stalin discovered about the difficulty of the housing board residents, he ordered the minister to fix the problem. They held talks with the owners and made a decision.
A 22-member committee including representatives from the flat owners has been created for the objective. All decisions about the development will be taken only after discussion with the committee. Details like the complete area of the planned residential unit, area of each flat and number of floors in the building are yet to be worked out.
While the state government has planned to spend approximately Rs 90 crore initially, the builder would be pumping in a portion of the amount needed for construction. In return, the builder would be provided with a particular number of apartments, which they could sell and recover the money invested.
