Assam launches unique ID system for land parcels

On Saturday, the department of land resources launched a system that will assign a 14-digit alphanumeric geospatial unique identification number to every land parcel in Assam.
For modern land governance, the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN), also known as an adhaar for land, was developed under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP).
On Saturday, ULPIN was generated as a pilot project in Assam for 434 villages in the Srijangram, Boitamari, and Bongaigaon circles of the Bongaigaon district, with property natural identifier units provided for 1,68,753 land parcels.
Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh urged ministers and senior officials to learn about and adopt best practices in land management and acquisition. On the importance of ULPIN, he said that once the system is implemented in its true spirit, the majority of land disputes will be resolved as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Jogen Mohan, the state's revenue and disaster management minister, said the state government has launched a coordinated effort under Mission Basundhara to integrate the land record system.
After end-to-end integration of digitalised land records and maps, which will be done after the survey of non-cadastral villages and re-survey of all cadastral villages, the ULPIN will be generated for real-time accurate land parcel measurement, according to Mohan.
Computerisation of land records, survey or re-survey, and computerisation of registration are the three major components of the DILRMP.
