Cantonment Board of Ramgarh serves notices to 400 buildings

The Cantonment Board of Ramgarh (CBR) has served notices to 400 buildings in the town for violating its building by-laws, CBR Chairman Brigadier M Sree Kumar told the media on Friday.

The CBR, which is responsible for the upkeep of the garrison town and is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), has taken cognizance of a letter written by former MLA Shankar Choudhary.

Choudhary claims in his letter that the owners of these structures have broken CBR laws prohibiting the construction of residential and commercial structures with more than two stories. The CBR has given the owners of these structures two weeks to clarify their position.

Those whose properties have basement floors which are being used for commercial purposes have also received notices.

In 1941, the Ramgarh Cantonment Board was founded and is located on the banks of the Damodar River. It used to have 7 Wards. One more ward was added after the demarcation in 2007. The total area of Cantonment Board Ramgarh, which includes both civil and military areas, is 9312.38 acres.

According to the 2011 census, the total population is 88781. Currently, the total population is estimated to be around one lakh. The Punjab Regimental Centre and the Sikh Regimental Centre are two of the Regimental Centers located within.
