Ramgarh people demand amendments in building by-laws of CBR

The owner of 400 multi-storey buildings under the jurisdiction of Cantonment Board Ramgarh (CBR) told the media that they would soon hit the streets to demand amendments to the 98-year-old building by-laws of CBR, which consider buildings above G+1 as illegal.

Recently, CBR served notices to around 400 such buildings, which are G+4, and threatened to demolish those illegal buildings.

The owner of a shopping mall in Ramgarh Garrison and President of Ramgarh Vikas Manch, Kamal Bagaria, said that the building by-laws should be amended to suit today鈥檚 times when it is an emerging city close to Ranchi.

He added that such archaic laws would limit the development of the city.

State Vice President of Small Industries India, Vijay Mewar, said that the Cantonment Board in Pune permits an eight-storey building.

Ramgarh is one of the 62 Cantonment Boards in India where the local municipal corporation functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. According to the CBR rule, only G+1 buildings are allowed.

Former MLA Shankar Choudhary wrote to Cantonment Board Ramgarh about 400 buildings seeking action after which the notice was served.

CBR told the media that the board would soon send a proposal to allow the G+4 building to the headquarters, after which any action could be taken.
